2 out of 5 stars Great build quality and features, painful to wear though   September 1, 2010

This watch has alot of wonderful features on it, and infact it does appear to be built very tough. The materials used are all seemingly great quality, and the watch face itself is well done and looks nice.

The problem I noticed immediately upon wearing the watch though was that it hurt, alot. Upon closer inspection, the bottom of the watch has these small plastic-like bumps that rise out from the center. I guess the purpose of these is probably to ensure the watch grips your arm and doesn't move around a whole lot, and it does it's job well - a bit too well. Trying to make minor adjustments to the watch's position on my arm is rather painful, as these bumps rub against your skin. After having worn it for ~12 hours a day for 2 days now, I have visible red marks on my arm where these bumps rested.

Another issue I have with the watch is its buttons. With my previous Casio watch, it was extremely easy to navigate the watch's various displays, the buttons clicked easily and were simple to access. The Mudman's buttons however are mostly flat, and don't come too far out from the watch. Trying to push them requires a bit of effort. It's definitely not the show stopper like my previous concern with the comfort, but it is rather annoying.

I really wanted to like this watch, but the comfort is a huge disappointment, and because of it I'll probably have to send it back and resort to my older Casio.

5 out of 5 stars Trusty thing!   August 25, 2010

I was given this watch as I chose it over the 1/1000sec stopwatch g-shock. I'm really glad that I did that because it simply doesn't disappoint. Rightly so, as on the g-shock website, 3 out of 6 "g-shock toughness tests" uses the mudman. Many people have said too that it's arguably the toughest g-shock out there.

As far as water resistance goes, this thing is a champ. I've swam in the sea a couple of times for hours at a go and even had mud harden all over it but as you can guess it works perfectly fine. I've bathed with this watch on several hundred times and pressed the buttons under water and it still doesn't compromise. It has become a tool I know I can rely on all the time, in any condition. It was once frozen in ice at <-20deg cel for a couple of hours, but after beating off the ice it still worked fine. The resin case is rather element-resistant I must say. I wonder what would happen to an ordinary watch which is subjected to the same harsh conditions as this watch.

The 2 stopwatches and timers have been very well utilised by me, and the 5 sec countdown for the stopwatch has been of great help as well. Perhaps the only downside I can think of is that the alarm is really soft. What's the point of having 5 alarms if none can wake you up? Having said that, the multiple alarms are a good reminder throughout the day for me, as long as I am awake! As far as accuracy is concerned, I doubt it's terribly accurate. Loses or gains seconds quite a bit.

The size of this thing is still huge, even though it's smaller than other g-shocks. Rather light but slightly bulky.

I'm starting to think that this watch is much tougher than what I'd ever need. After all, who can survive where this watch won't? Besides, if I'd ever do trekking in Antarctica or mountain climbing, I'd need to know more than just the time. Perhaps the altitude or temperature or my coordinates.

I've had this watch on when skydiving, when on my police duties and when on holidays. It's stuck with me everywhere i've been. If ordinary watches would last long, how much more this mudman? Chew on that!

3 out of 5 stars Public Enemy?   August 23, 2010

This watch is defintly everything that the write up says it is. Super rugged and it has all the features. One thing I hated about it was the size. I felt like I had one of flav a flavs giant clocks on my wrist. I have a medium sized wrist and it just looked kind of ridiculous. If you are used to giant g shocks this wont be a problem but I didnt like it at all. Also, the display is tiny. I am sure this watch will last forever though. Just make sure you know what you are getting.

I returned this and got the g shock classic :

which seems to be just as rugged from the reviews and it is much smaller and feels way better on my wrist. It is also way easier to navigate. I like it a lot better!

I'm almost 2 years late in writing a review for this. But it was a good test against time! This watch has been through a LOT of abuse in these 2 years. And no signs of weakness!!

It has sustained extensive outdoor sports activities on an everyday basis, swims, sky-dives, hang-glides, shocks, sweat, water and shower (everyday!!!).

Battery is amazing and the watch looks brand new after every shower! :)

Go for it guys!!
(The buttons are hard to press but you get use to it - they are hard for a reason...to make it mud-proof, water and sweat-proof)

5 out of 5 stars Awesome watch!!!   July 5, 2010

This watch is awesome, I wear it all the time and I never ever take it off!!! Love all the alarm options because I go to school and I need different alarms and this way, I can set them all up with no problem or worry. I would definitely recommend this watch to anyone because there are multiple stop watch modes and a 24 hour countdown mode for those who travel on airplanes and wanna set their countdown to however long the flight is! That's basically what I do because I hate sitting on the flight and wondering how much time is left. The watch came on time and I think a day sooner than i expected!! BUY THIS WATCH, YOU WILL NOT BE SORRY!!!!!
